2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat (Trackhawk) Spied, Sounds like a Lion in a Cage

By now, the Hellcat-ized Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the worst kept secrets of the car business. Even so, there's nothing that can prepare you for the brutish experience such a machine delivers.

The video below shows us the tentatively called Grand Cherokee Trackhawk testing inside a facility. Well, the first impression we got after watching the footage had something to do with visiting a reservation and experiencing the fear of being left alone with the lion.

The demonic Grand Cherokee pulls a vicious launch, coming to a halt shortly. In the process, the supercharger whine is almost certain and this is the kind of guessing that raises the hair on the back of your neck.

The clip, which comes from MG TV, allows us to taste the manic Jeep just enough to keep us on our toes until the next clue on the vehicle is released.

With Jeep helm man Mike Manley having confirmed the behemoth at the Detroit Auto Show, all we have to do now is ensure the relationship with our financial consultants is a good one.

The already-collectible Jeep will arrive by the end of next year, as the carmaker's CEO explained during his Cobo Hall stint.

While the blown 6.2-liter V8 delivers 707 ponies in both the Challenger and the Charger, we can't be sure about the output it will deliver while installed on the Mercedes-Benz ML-sourced platform of the flagship Jeep.

Nevertheless, since the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, with its atmospheric 6.4-liter Hemi, delivers 475 hp, the bad kitty will have to make quite a difference.

As for the challenges engineers face, not only does the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk have to contain the output of its engine (care for some 650 lb-ft, anybody?) but it also has to deliver the right kind of handling. And torque-vectoring diffs don't grow on trees.
