It’s the baddest, most exciting derivative of the Jaguar full-size luxury sedan. And of course it’s not cheap, because why would the XJR575 be reasonable? Having made its world premiere in July, the supercharged V8-powered leaping cat can be yours from $122,400 in the U.S. Over in Germany, that would be €143,900, and in Jaguar’s domestic market, the starting price is £93,710 OTR.
Set apart by the rest of the XJ lineup, the XJR575 relies on a 5.0-liter engine that develops an F-Type SVR-equaling 575 PS (567 horsepower) and an earth-shattering 700 Nm (516 Nm) of torque. More intriguingly, all that get-up-and-go is sent by the eight-speed automatic box to the rear axle.
On the flip side, the tuxedo-wearing weightlifter comes as standard with stop/start to save fuel while sitting at a red light. How ludicrous is that? Not as ludicrous as the manic XE SV Project 8, but still awe-inspiring enough to make grown men go weak at the knees. The performance speaks for itself.
186 miles per hour (300 km/h), zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds (100 km/h in 4.4s), what more could you wish for? An OK-ish fuel consumption? Well, it so happens the XJR575 doesn’t care about Johnny Polar Bear or the price of oil. In U.S. specification, expect an EPA-estimated 34.5 miles per gallon highway. Over in the Old Continent, the European XJR575 drinks up as little as 11.1 l/100 km on the combined cycle, producing 264 grams of CO2/kilometer.
Further setting apart the XJR575 from its peers is the choice of Special Vehicle Operations exterior colors: Satin Corris Grey and Velocity Blue. And wouldn’t you know, both of them can be had at no extra cost. The 20" Farallon wheels are standard as well, as are the two louvers on the hood.
Manufactured at the British automaker’s Castle Bromwich factory alongside the F-Type, XF, and XE, the XJR575 features diamond-stitched leather upholstery, red stitching, and 10" infotainment system with 4G and Wi-Fi.
