As you might have heard by now, station wagons are yesterday’s news because most people can’t seem to quench their thirst for crossovers and SUVs. Be that as it may, the longroof soldiers on despite the fact it’s not as trendy as it was merely two decades ago.
One of the manufacturers that have decided to keep the flame burning is Jaguar. Next year, the XF mid-size sedan will be joined by the XF Sportbrake. Previewed at the 2016 Paris Motor Show during a presentation, the 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake will be just like you imagine it to be: sleek, sexy, but roomier than the XF sedan.

Slated to debut in production-ready form at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the all-new XF Sportbrake has been spied by the shutterbugs. Pictured in full-attack mode at the grueling Nurburgring Nordschleife, it’s easy to notice that this prototype isn’t just your average family car. It is, in fact, the hell-bent for leather XF S Sportbrake.

The gaping intakes up front, deep chin, huge alloy wheels, and the red-painted brake calipers are tell-tale signs about what’s hiding under the hood. More to the point, the XF S Sportbrake is motivated by the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 from the F-Type V6 S, a mill that churns out 381 PS (376 bhp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque.

Lesser models will be animated by a 2.0-liter turbo diesel, a 3.0-liter turbo diesel, or the all-new Ingenium turbo petrol engine. Thanks to techy stuff such as a twin-scroll turbo setup and an electrohydraulic valvetrain, Jaguar Land Rover promises that the all-new enginewill deliver exceptional performance, efficiency, and refinement.”

Depending on configuration, the 2017 Jaguar XF Sportbrake will be available with rear- and all-wheel-drive, as well as a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. And yes, it will be sold in the U.S.
