2018 Jaguar F-Pace SVR Blitzes the Nurburgring Circuit

When Jaguar presented the F-Pace, most of us thought that the British automaker has given in to trend of the moment: the high-riding sport utility vehicle. But then again, the F-Pace has proven its keep thanks to its sexy styling, all-wheel-drive prowess, and the performance of its force-fed engine lineup.

The latter aspect, however, can always be improved. More horsepower, more torque, more grip, better lap times, you name it, everybody loves the concept of “more.” Hence, the F-Pace will be bestowed upon with an SVR variant.

Recently spied dropping hot laps on the most grueling circuit of them all, the Nurburgring Nordschleife, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR sports a thumping great V8 blunderbuss under its hood. The force-fed eight-cylinder unit is needed to take on the likes of the Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package, as well as the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4Matic and BMW X3 M.

Don’t, however, expect 550 horsepower like in the slightly larger and more ponderous Range Rover Sport SVR. Compared to the current most powerful F-Pace, which boasts a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 380 horsepower on tap, the SVR is a significant departure in terms of go-faster credentials. Even in the exterior design department, the Jaguar F-Pace SVR means business.

Just look at those gaping holes at the sides of the front bumper, air intakes designed to direct air to the engine and the brakes. The lower half of the bumper also gets a far sportier treatment than the regular F-Pace prides itself on. On that note, the profile and rear end don’t have too much to brag about. That’s probably because this is a test mule, not the finished product.

Speaking of which, the rumor mill suggests that the upcoming F-Pace SVR will be competitively priced. For reference, the Jaguar F-Pace S AWD starts from $56,700 in the United States, sans delivery and destination.

That’s significantly less than the Porsche Macan Turbo ($76,000) and Macan Turbo with Performance Package ($86,445). My gut is telling me that the eight-cylinder F-Pace SVR won’t surpass the $80,000 price point in base trim. But with all the bells and whistles spoken for, the high 90s is a given.
