2018 Honda Accord Spied for the First Time, Partially Reveals Interior

This is big, folks. Honda has just begun hot weather testing for the all-new 2018 Accord sedan. It's a mid-size only in name, as the Civic's big brother has also grown in size and complexity.

The prototype was snapped by our car paparazzi in the peak of summer in the desert of Southwest. It's hot enough to boil an egg on the road, but that's perfect if you want to find out if the air conditioning is up to the job.

With about a year to go until the full reveal of the car, we can show you a few details, as well as the all-important interior of the new Accord. It looks like Honda is doing a big update with a much larger center screen that does everything.

Despite wearing full body camouflage, the 2018 Accord does reveal some design elements. For example, the similarity to the 2016 Civic is uncanny, but with a boxier, more angular shape at the front. This, in turn, defines the line of the grille and the square headlight projectors which are, most likely, LEDs.

Like Volkswagen, Honda is moving towards a single vehicle platform... but with less Dieselgate. The Accord will share its underpinnings with the next CR-V that's around the corner. We wouldn't be surprised if they decide to ditch the V6 of the high-end models for a 2-liter turbo, like the one used by the European Civic Type R hot hatch.

Further down in the range, four-cylinder mills will continue to do their job. It's yet unclear if a 1.5-liter turbo will be offered in America, but it could make it into China anyway. It might even be possible to export that model to Europe, where local production of the Accord has been discontinued.

Considering the Civic has grown substantially since the last generation, we expect the Accord to do the same thing. Considering how popular most new Honda models have been in the past few years, we could be looking at another segment leader.
