The Genesis-branded compact executive sedan may be just a pre-production prototype right now, but soon enough, the G70 will duke it out with the BMW 3 Series. Until the G70 is ready to do exactly that, an artist decided to have a go at imagining the G70.
Created by Brenthon Design, this rendering of the 2018 Genesis G70 brings us closer to the real deal. Based on spy photographs of the pre-production prototype, the pictured sedan also borrows cues from New York Concept.

Presented in March 2016 at the New York Auto Show, the concept is a wild exaggeration compared to how the Genesis G70 will actually look like. Nevertheless, the one-off machine signals the premum automaker’s intention to offer a hybrid powertrain in the upcoming G70, consisting of a 2.0-liter GDi engine, an electric motor, an 8-speed tranny, and 245 PS (242 horsepower).

Being developed for the U.S. market first and foremost, the Genesis G70 could also get a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbo as the entry-level option. With 245 horsepower on tap in the Hyundai Sonata, the 2.0T under the hood of the G70 would have no problem keeping up with the likes of the Audi A4 2.0 TFSI (252 hp), BMW 330i (248 hp), and Mercedes-Benz C300 (241 hp). A diesel for the European customer is out of the question for the time being, chiefly because the Genesis brand will debut in Europe no sooner than 2019.

“Say, what about a go-faster G70 variant?” At the present moment, we can only speculate on the subject of a hot G70. The twin-turbo V6 in the Genesis G80 Sport has 365 horsepower to offer in its tamest tune, making it a viable option against the Mercedes-AMG C43 and BMW 340i. Regarding what will motivate the BMW M3- and Mercedes-AMG C63-rivaling G70 variant, a V8 isn’t likely. At best, Genesis would go for a more potent 3.3-liter T-GDi.

Until further notice, this is all we have on the 2018 Genesis G70.
