Ford is developing a more powerful version of the Mustang, but its name and specifications remain undisclosed.
Last week, we published a set of spyshots of a Ford Mustang prototype that has a few prominent features to cope with enhanced performance.
We are discussing high-performance tires, a rear wing, bigger front vents, and many other improvements. At the time, we believed that the said prototype would be either the next Ford Mustang Mach 1, or the next Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang.
The aerodynamic elements of the model were also improved on the prototype, as was the braking system. This version also had a set of Brembo brakes, as well as a modified exhaust, a rear air diffuser, and bigger rims than standard models. The resulting car should be a road-legal track-oriented Mustang, which could mean that the body will shed some weight.
When we first saw photographs of the prototype, we knew the car had a V8 underneath its hood, and that its output exceeded what the ongoing models provide. At the time, a sticker on the windscreen that wrote “TT” was enough to make some believe that the prototype features a twin-turbo version of the V8 engine, but this might not be a guarantee to the supercharging method chosen by the Blue Oval.
Others believe Ford might have opted for a supercharger for the most powerful production Mustang ever made, in the form of the car that will be build from the development of the said prototype. No matter what supercharging solution will be chosen in the end by Ford engineers, the top output is rated at about 810 HP, according to unnamed sources.
Either way, the Ford Mustang’s performance-oriented variant could be sold in the USA and other markets, but skip Europe entirely, Autocar remarks. There is also a possibility that the British market could not get the car at all, or it could be available as a limited series. Other countries could receive a capped output if their dealers could prove they could sell sufficient units.
