The refreshed Mustang is almost ready for delivery to the first customers in the U.S., and as expected, the change from six- to 10-speed automatic makes the Coyote V8-powered GT a bit more frugal than the previous model. By how much? Well, make that only one mpg better in the city, highway, and combined.
As per the 2018 Ford Mustang GT window sticker uploaded by Mustang 6G forum member “disneyfun1,” the EPA-rated fuel economy stands at 19 mpg combined (16 mpg city; 25 mpg highway). That’s 5.3 gallons for every 100 miles and an annual fuel cost of $1,900. Other than the transmission, another change that must be highlighted is the overhauled 5.0-liter engine, which now features a dual-fuel injection system, combining direct and port fuel injection.

The overhaul further translates to more get-up-and-go, with the Mustang GT churning out 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque compared to the pre-facelift model’s 435 hp and 400 lb-ft. Opt for the Performance Package and turn on Drag Strip mode, and the pony will happily thrust to 60 mph in under four seconds. Indeed, that makes it quicker off the line than the GT350, which is staggering when you consider what an awesome pony the Shelby is.

From the window sticker, we learn that the Mustang GT in question retails at $53,160, including options worth $13,165. The most expensive of the lot are the GT Performance Package ($3,995), magnetic dampers ($1,695), Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic ($1,595), and the Safe & Smart Package ($1,495). The 12-speaker Shaker Pro audio system, on the other hand, is $895.

In production since October 2 at Flat Rock, Michigan, the 2018 Ford Mustang will start arriving at dealers in November. Customers who don’t need the V8 will have to make do with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost, which starts at $25,585 with the six-speed manual transmission. For the Mustang Convertible, you’re looking at $31,085, whereas the Shelby GT350 kicks off at $57,145.

Come 2019 MY, the Shelby GT500 will return to the lineup.
