The problem with race-ready street cars is that they’re often too much to handle on the public road. Dodge’s SRT division has a solution to this problem in the form of a mysterious crate.
Titled “Crate,” the fourth teaser video in a series of 12 for the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon reveals that the new king of the muscle cars can be customized for street and track use. And by track, I’m referring to the drag strip, which is the stomping ground of straight line performance.
The video teaser also reveals a Stig-like figure who takes out a number of tools from a Demon-branded crate. And according to Dodge, the owner can tune the SRT Demon “to favor street performance, drag strip performance or something in between.” The latter part is most interesting.
Dodge also reveals that 18 parts are included in the crate, as follows: Direct Connection Demon Performance Parts, Demon-branded track tools, Demon spare wheels, and a so-called Demon Track Pack System, whatever that may be. As an added bonus, each Demon Crate features a red plaque with the owner’s name, a serial number, and VIN.
There’s still a lot more to learn about the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon until the veils will be taken off, although things are moving in the right direction. Up to this point in time, we know the SRT Demon is no less than 215 pounds lighter than the SRT Hellcat. What’s hiding under the hood is a supercharged HEMI V8, but its power continues to be a mystery.
From the get-go, the Challenger SRT Demon ships with Nitto drag radials on all four corners. Despite this setup, the big bad Challenger has the makings of a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, not an AWD machine as it was previously rumored. Oh, and another thing: you only get one seat.
