The original Duster was shown to the Romanian media in 2009. Fast-forward to 2017, and here we are today, looking at the second-generation Duster. If it looks somewhat familiar, that’s because the changes aren’t as serious as some had expected, with the 2018 model riding on the same platform as the original.
Dubbed by its creator as being “more Duster than ever” and “a revolution called Duster,” the newcomer follows in the footsteps of more than 2 million models sold since launch. First of all, the 2018 Dacia Duster is more capable off the road than its predecessor thanks to 210 mm of ground clearance.

The overhangs are minutely shorter (822 mm at the front, 820 mm at the rear), and the crossing angles have been reduced (30° angle of attack, 23° ramp angle, 36° angle of departure). The Duster tips the scales at 1,160 kilograms in 4x2 attire, while 4x4 one-ups the compact SUV to 1,250 kg.

From the standpoint of design, the exterior receives LED daytime running lights divided into three sections, distinctive front grille, and a satin chrome skid plate. At the profile, you’ll notice the higher belt line and that the windscreen has been brought forward 100 millimeters to make the cabin more spacious. With 17-inch alloy wheels and black wing arch trim, the all-new Duster also prides itself on four red stacked squares for each taillight.

Dacia hasn’t released any photographs of the interior, though the Romanian automaker controlled by Renault promises “upgraded traveling comfort thanks to a completely redesigned, quality-feel interior and new equipment.” Fingers crossed the 7.0-inch Media Nav infotainment system has been moved higher up the dashboard, a change many Duster owners have been calling for.

Another area where Dacia refused to comment for the time being is engine options, with the newcomer expected to be offered with at least two powerplants: 1.2 TCe and 1.5 dCi. Depending on the engine and trim level, the Renault six-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission should also make the cut.

Having said these, all the remaining information on the 2018 Dacia Duster will be made public on September 12, at the IAA 2017 in Frankfurt.

LATER EDIT

Here are four design sketches of the new Duster's interior, with the dashboard layout being vastly superior compared to the first Duster.
