The all-new Dacia Duster has chunky off-roader looks, as shown in most of the exterior shots that were revealed last week. However, customers will be spending 99% of their time inside the car, which has only partially been detailed in some sketches.
But a few photos have leaked out from a journalist event held behind closed doors. They suggest the 2018 Duster's cabin is a mix of familiar elements and brand new design keys.
The steering wheel has a very familiar 4-spoke design, nearly identical to that of every 2016 or 2017 Dacia model that got a facelift. But the trademark triple dashboard gauges have been replaced by just two, perhaps with a small display in the middle. It reminds us of VW and BMW, which is no bad thing.
Moving on to the dashboard, we see three air vents in the middle. Below that, a new infotainment screen, a row of toggles, followed by air conditioning controls that have tiny screens within the dials. It looks just like what Suzuki is doing!
The photos we've managed to gather show, there will be at least two versions of the screen, a premium one with navigation, glass on top and a silver bezel, but also a cheaper version that looks like the one in the Logan facelift. These differences might also be market-specific.
The old Dustered suffered from a badly designed center console. But this time around, they've left enough room for cubbies and cup holders. There are chunky handles on either side and a gear shifter lever that's flat on top, like in some new Renaults. The controls for the side mirrors have finally been moved to the driver's door, where they should have been all along. Also, there will be some color customization options available.
Other than that, the new Duster will come with updated versions of the gasoline-burning 1.2-liter and diesel-burning 1.5-liter turbo engines. Depending on power output, some will come with 4x4 or a six-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission sourced from Renault. More info will be published in Frankfurt, so stay tuned.
