The generation change that brought us the E90 BMW M5 saw Bavarian engineers pumping plenty of extra performance into the super-sedan. As a result, the four-door can deliver splendid numbers and we're here to bring you a sample of this. We're referring to a drag strip adventure, one that saw the Bimmer going up against... the stopwatch.
To be more precise, the driver of the 2018 M5 didn't have any opponent, nor did he chase the light. Instead, the aficionado chose to keep the car still until boost was properly built, aiming for the perfect launch.

As we mentioned in the title above, the BMW we have here doesn't come in stock form. And that's because its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 has been gifted with an ECU remap.

And while we're not aware of the new output, we can talk about the quarter-mile numbers of the machine. The BMW M5 managed to complete the 1,320 feet sprint in 10.65s, with a trap speed of 131 mph.

For the sake of comparison, this places the slightly touched BMW M5 we have here in the same league with supercars like the McLaren 12C.

While we're at it, we'll remind you the stock incarnation of the super-sedan needs 10.9 seconds for the job, being able to deliver a trap speed of 129 mph. Note that the values are listed for the "standard" M5 (it has 600 ponies), not the 625 hp Competition model. So the numbers above are perfectly normal.

Of course, the battle for the 9s arena is on and we might see an F90 BMW M5 entering the said field next year. Now, that would make the five-seater as quick as a hypercar, so we can't wait to get our hands on such an adventure and share the thing with you. Meanwhile, you can check out the tuned M5 shenanigan in the clip below.
