BMW has been testing the next generation of the 3 Series for a few months now, and the prototypes still wear a thick layer of camouflage.
This time, our friends at SB-Medien have managed to snap photos of two prototypes of the upcoming BMW 3 Series. Unlike previous spy galleries of the G20 3 Series, the latest set of images provides more interior shots, which reveal the design of the door cards, as well as other details regarding the cabin of the next generation compact executive model from BMW.
Unlike previous prototypes of the G20 BMW 3 Series, these examples have a new front end. Their bumpers resemble the look of the ones used by the prototype of the upcoming 5 Series. Moreover, the headlights have a different design, and the front “kidney” grille has been adapted to suit it.
The rear of the prototype is not wearing production taillights yet, so there’s not that much to say about it. The sides of the vehicle are concealed in camouflage, but we can see that the doors seem to have been made larger with the next generation.
We must note that this is just a visual estimate, based on what can be observed in the images in the gallery, so the change in real life might not be as dramatic.
BMW is set to launch the G20 generation of the 3 Series as a 2018 model year vehicle, which means that you should see this car in showrooms in 2017. Most likely, the Bavarian brand will launch the next generation 3 Series after the middle of next year, so expect to see more spyshots as this year progresses.
We already know that the G20 3 Series will receive a massive digital gauge cluster, while its platform will be improved to shed weight and increase efficiency.
The Bavarian brand is the last of the German trio to renew its bread-and-butter model, the 3 Series, as Audi launched the new A4 in 2015, and Mercedes-Benz released the W205 C-Class in 2014.
