"But the 2 Series already received new goodies for the 2017 model year," we hear you saying. While that's true, the Bavarian automaker is preparing the model's mid-cycle revamp for next year and we've got the spyshots to prove it.
Our spy shooters are spending the autumn in Germany and they've just come across a BMW transport truck carrying a little surprise, in the form of the 2018 2 Series Coupe facelift (this is called LCI, or Life Cycle Impulse, in BMW talk).

In the typical BMW fashion, the visual part of the refresh will require a trained eye to be spotted. To be more precise, the kidney grille is getting a slight redesign, while we can say the same about the headlights - notice the new daytime running lights.

Moving to the rear of the two-door Bimmer, we find headlight camo covering the new inner graphics.

The cabin of the spied vehicle was also covered, which indicates the revamp will also touch this area. Here's to hoping the Germans up the ante on the perceived quality front.

The mid-cycle refresh will also bring certain changes under the hood, but we'll remind you that the 2017MY update mentioned in the intro already saw the M235i becoming the M240i.

Sure, the handling remained unchanged (still not a good drift toy), but the B58 engine, which is new to the 2 Series, produces 15 hp and 39 lb-ft more than the M235i delivered, allowing the driver to play with 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of twist.

And while this sounds like a risk when it comes to cannibalizing the M2, whose specs remained unchanged for 2017 (365 hp and 369 lb-ft) of torque, perhaps the M2 prototype we've been seeing on the Nurburgring will change that.

So far, we expected the Ring tester to be the rumored M2 CS, a sportscar that supposedly borrows the M4's twin-turbo S55 3.0-liter straight-six. Well, perhaps the prototype was simply the "normal" M2, but with the 2018 facelift.

One way or another, the M2 will get its update and we'll returnwith more info as soon as we get our hands on it. For instance, the 2018 2 Series Convertible LCI spyshots could come next.
