BMW calls its facelifts “LCI,” which stands for life cycle impulse. As usual, this LCI comes in the middle of a model’s life cycle, and the changes that will be introduced are not dramatic. As you can observe, the car comes with new LED taillights, a modified front grille, a different rear bumper, and new headlights.

BMW is expected to improve the passenger compartment of the 2 Series Coupe, which might get more technology and new materials. The engine range is also expected to receive new units, and they should bring an increase in fuel economy and power. Evidently, the facelift will not bring a major hike in output or performance, but we expect the car to be even better it is today.

The changes applied to the Coupe model of the 2 Series range are projected to be carried over to the Cabriolet. These two sister cars are distinctive in the BMW range because they share their model designation (2 Series) with the first MPVs from the German brand, but without having the same platform or configuration.

While the next 1 Series is expected by many to receive the UKL platform and become a front-wheel-drive model, the 2 Series Coupe and Cabriolet models might keep their rear-wheel-drive configuration for the next generation.

We still have a few years of 2 Series Coupe production in front of us until that time comes, so BMW has time to analyze all the sides of this story until the time comes to develop the next 2 Series Coupe.

Once the facelift of the 2 Series Coupe is released on the market, BMW might launch another body style into this range. While it has not been officially announced, rumors point to a 2 Series GranCoupe model.

However, that car might be launched with the next generation of the 2 Series, because its life cycle might be too short if it gets on the market right after the facelift of the base model.
