Oh, how most of the automotive media laughed when Bentley introduced the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept in Geneva last year. But the British manufacturer wasn’t lying when it declared that the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept was a bold vision for an automaker with a bold future. As fate would have it, the next generation of the Continental GT will borrow the styling cues previewed by Bentley a year ago.
Our spy photographers caught the 2018 Bentley Continental GT in the wild. This time around, they’ve snapped the thing with a proper camera, not an iPhone, and gosh would you look at those headlights. Floating all-LED headlights have been around since the Bentayga, but this application is the best one yet. Obviously inspired by the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept, the all-new Continental GT has a lot of visual presence as far as the front is concerned.
At the rear, the oval-shaped taillights and tailpipes also mirror those found on the EXP 10 Speed 6. As for the sheet metal, most of the car is camouflaged with a plastic body. Only the greenhouse is exposed. The prototype featured in the photo gallery stands a little lower to the ground compared to the current Continental GT and muscular rear haunches give the impression of a slightly wider car.
The beautiful body shell of the 2+2 grand tourer sits on top of Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform, which will be used by Porsche for the next-generation Panamera. This chassis serves as a tell-tale sign Bentley could offer a hybrid version of the Conti GT if there’s customer demand for an eco-conscious GT.
Regarding internal combustion, the entry-level 2018 Bentley Continental GT will be motivated by a 4.0 twin-turbo V8 with approximately 550 horsepower on tap. For the range-topping Continental GT, the British manufacturer will employ an evolution of the outgoing 635 horsepower 6-liter twin-turbo W12 engine. Expect the all-new Conti GT to make its first public outing in 2017 for the 2018 model year.
P.S.: I was never a big fan of the Continental GT because it's a fat car. The new one, on the other hand...
