2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante Goes Official With Twin-Turbo V8 Power

Convertibles, as you’re well aware, have an ace up their sleeve thanks to the open-air feel provided by the retractable roof. But most importantly, a high-performance car with the top down sounds better to the driver’s ears than the equivalent fixed-head coupe. In the case of the DB11 Volante, Aston Martin also got the styling perfectly right. Face it, it’s bite-the-back-of-your-hand beautiful!

Following the DB11 and DB11 V8, the order books for the DB11 Volante are now open. Deliveries are scheduled for the spring of 2018, and in the first instance, the open-top sports grand tourer will be exclusively available with the twin-turbo V8 from Mercedes-AMG. Displacing 4.0 liters, the “hot vee” V8 churns out 510 PS (503 hp) and 675 Nm (513 lb-ft) of torque at 2,000 rpm.

The fabric roof features no less than eight layers of acoustic and weather insulation, taking just 14 seconds to lower at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph). Putting it back up takes 16 seconds, and thanks to inspired packaging, the retractable roof system allowed Aston Martin to offer 20 percent more cargo capacity than the free-breathing V12-powered DB9 Volante it replaces.

Changing from coupe to convertible doesn’t translate to a smaller fuel tank than the DB11. Capable of taking in 78 liters (20.5 gallons; 17.2 imperial gallons), the Volante won’t leave you stranded at the side of the road on a longer driver. Weighing in at 1,875 kilograms (USA Curb Declared; 100 percent fluids), the newcomer is almost 100 kilograms heavier than the DB11.

“For many of our customers, indeed many generations of
Aston Martin customer, the Volante has always offered something very special: a unique combination of elegant style, innate sporting ability and sensory engagement that lifts it above other open-top cars,” declared head honcho Dr. Andy Palmer.

And now, brace yourself for pricing information. At £159,900 in the UK, €199,000 in Germany and $216,495 in United States, the 2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante is an idea more expensive than the DB11 V8 (£144,900; €184,000; $198,995).
