Designed in the 1930s by Ferdinand Porsche, influenced by the Tatra V570, then redesigned as a lifestyle car in the late 1990s, the Volkswagen Beetle is many things. However, the German manufacturer has never offered a pink-colored Beetle... until now.
Introducing the #PinkBeetle, the girliest and most obnoxious of all Beetle models. Why girly? Well, pink is a color associated with girls, especially after Mamie Eisenhower wore a pink dress at the U.S. presidential inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Before that moment in time, British boys wore pink clothes.

Why obnoxious? The reason is surprisingly simple. Dear marketing people over at Volkswagen, what in the world possessed you to use a hashtag? A limited edition model isn’t a Twitter feed, you know.

Jokes aside, the 2017 Volkswagen Beetle in #PinkBeetle form will be available in coupe and convertible configurations once it goes on sale in the fall. Retail pricing isn't known at the time being, nor what Volkswagen means by “limited quantities across the United States.”

These said, I can tell you that the HashtagPinkBeetle comes with a 1.8 TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine with direct injection and a six-speed automatic transmission. 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) is the most this engine has to offer in this configuration.

As far as design is concerned, the #PinkBeetle wears Fresh Fuchsia Metallic paint. The unique color is complemented by gloss-black mirror caps, black running boards, and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. If you prefer the convertible over the coupe, make that 18-inch wheels. Inside, you’re greeted by pink almost everywhere you look. Heck, even the GTI-style pattern of the cloth seats has a splash of pink to it.

If you’re sick of the color pink, I’m much obliged to tell you that the Volkswagen Beetle is available in nine other exterior colors. You can go to VW's website to see how each paint finish looks like on the charming Beetle.
