Volkswagen’s Beetle, the second rebirth of an iconic model, is not expected to receive a successor once this generation’s product cycle is over.
Fortunately for the fans of the ongoing generation, as well as potential future customers, Volkswagen has decided not to let the Beetle age into an obsolete model and upgraded it for the 2017 model year.

Firstly, different trim levels will have separate bumper designs. In Europe, customers will get to choose from Basic, Design, and R-Line. Each of them has a different set of bumpers.

Secondly, customers have more color options and new wheel designs available when ordering. We are talking about 17-inch and 18-inch rims, as well as two new paint shades - “Bottle Green Metallic,” and “White Silver Metallic.” Conveniently, both can be seen on the models in the photo gallery of this story.

Once inside, occupants will notice a brighter instrument panel, but also a new design for the dash and gauges.

Unfortunately, the 12.1-inch TFT display available in other Volkswagen models has not made its way into the Beetle. That would have been a nice touch, but it would not have matched the Beetle’s retro look. The Beetle Cabriolet and its regular sibling are both available in the new configuration.

Customers can now choose between three new upholstery materials and designs, and the interior can receive new styling options, including more colors. For example, the center console can get a colored paint finish. There is also a “Black Style Package,” which comes with all-black side-mirror caps, roof, and wheels.

Along with the new options, Volkswagen also introduced special editions of the Beetle, as well as an interior styling pack. We are writing about the R-Line interior package, which comes with a sport steering wheel, unique upholstery, and additional trim elements. Meanwhile, the Beetle Allstar is still available, and is joined in the range by the Beetle Exclusive. The second model comes with materials and items that are only available on this special edition version.

Volkswagen says the price of the Beetle remains unchanged after the new additions to the range. The choice of engines is also the same, as the German automaker provides a range that goes from 105 HP to 220 HP, including diesel and gasoline options, and some of them are also available with twin-clutch DSG gearboxes.
