In 2011, Toyota and Subaru had wowed the world with the GT86 and the BRZ. For the model year 2017, the Japanese sports car has been gifted with new looks, a more capable chassis, better aerodynamics, and more creature comforts. In the Her Majesty’s United Kingdom, the facelifted model goes on sale this October.
Pricing has been confirmed to start from £25,495 for the GT86 manual. The automatic transmissions adds £1,550 to the price, which is a big no-no considering that a sports car with an auto totally defeats the purpose. Further up in the lineup, there’s the GT86 Pro manual (£27,095) and the range-topping GT86 Pro automatic (£28,695). These said, what’s new for 2017?

Well, it definitely looks better than the pre-facelifted model. The Toyota GT86’s face is enhanced by the LED headlights, which were designed to create a strong horizontal emphasis. In addition to that, the turn indicators were relocated from the front bumper to within the headlamp clusters.

The meanest visual details that adorn the 2017 Toyota GT86 are, of course, the aero-stabilizing fins and the deep grille, which was designed to smooth the airflow. From a structural standpoint, the rearmost part of the chassis features additional spot welding and “key components have been made thicker.” What’s more, Toyota engineers have retuned the shock absorbers.

As far as the interior is concerned, the central part of the tactile experience is the small steering wheel (362-mm diameter). For comfort-minded customers, audio and infotainment controls are incorporated into the wheel. Also new is the 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display, which can be used to assess performance data such as power, torque curves, G-force monitor, and so on.

Under the hood, motivation comes from a familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine with 197 horsepower (200 PS) at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) of torque between 6,400 and 6,600 rpm. With a curb weight of 2,758 pounds (1,251 kilograms) and this kind of output, the 2017 Toyota GT86 can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.6 seconds, on to a top end of 140 mph (225 km/h).
