While we wait for Ford engineers to complete the testing of the 2018 Mustang Shelby GT500 that's been keeping us on our toes, the latter have a more reasonable proposal for us, coming in the form of the 2017 Shelby GTE.
At first, it might seem like we're dealing with a bit of a Bud Light here - in contrast to the usual high-muscle approach, Shelby American's latest development only brings a modest power increase.
In our book, though, the GTE, whose final letter stands for "Enhanced", is the Mustang as many dream about it in the post-6th-gen-Camaro era - with Chevy's performer being a little more agile than the 'Stang, the GTE can be regarded as a package that comes to make things even, while allowing the pony to keep its cabin room superiority.
The GTE brings plenty of cool badges, along with a modest power increase, one that sees the GT's five-oh V8 jumping from 435 hp and 400 lb-ft to 456 ponies and 424 lb-ft. The treatment can also be applied to the EcoBoost Mustang, whose 310 hp and 320 lb-ft factory output jumps to 340 hp and 390 lb-ft.
The parts used here are lifted from the Ford Performance catalog, with the list including a cat-back exhaust, a handling package (plus wheels), as well as an aero kit. The last consists of a front splitter, upper and lower front grilles, rocker panels, as well as a rear spoiler.
When it comes to the interior goodies, these include illuminated door sills, branded floor mats and headrests, as well as a serialized dashboard plaque.
Sticking to the bits and pieces mentioned above means you'll go with the standard package, which can be yours for $17,999, obviously not including the base vehicle.
Nevertheless, if you're into serious bodybuilding, though, the Performance catalog can dial things to 750 hp, a cooling kit for track aficionados, who can also ding into suspension and brake updates. Oh, and let's not overlook the carbon fiber goodies for those who enjoys putting their Mustangs on a diet.
