SEAT has made so many versions of the Cupra that it's hard to keep track of the one you want. But we do know that if this report about the ST Cupra getting AWD turns out to be correct, it will be an all-mighty family wagon.
The Spanish automaker has already confirmed it's got a Cupra surprise lined up for us next year. We've caught up with a testing prototype in October and can thus tell you that the cosmetic changes will be minimal at best.

Spanish blog Decoches more recently posted these photos of the 2017 ST Cupra prototype, but we don't see any indication of AWD being installed.

Regardless, fitting the Haldex 5 system on a 300 horsepower hot wagon has already been done. It's called the Golf R Variant, and it's unreasonably expensive. That's partly why we are excited about the Leon, as it might be a couple of thousand euros cheaper.

Who cares about the weight penalty? The ST Cupra is already 1.5 tons of awesome! And while there is no reason it couldn't handle just 10 more horsepower through its front wheels, we're excited about the drag racing potential.

With a brand new car like this on the market, there's very little reason to buy a second-hand Audi S4 Avant. The ST Cupra packs lots of power, adaptive dampers, a DSG gearbox and a 580-liter trunk. The transition from the 280 to the 290 model brought about even better exhaust too. You can even order orange wheels!

But the report from Auto Express that we are quoting says all the 2017 Cupra models will have 300 PS or 296 bhp. That's a lot, but the Civic Type R is a big thorn in everybody's side right now, so the move is justified.

If true, this story indirectly suggests that the SEAT Ateca Cupra will also have 300 horsepower because having one set configuration is cheaper for the relatively small Spanish brand. But nothing will be known for sure until the official debut of the Cupra facelift in February 2017.
