Today, Euro NCAP released crash test results for four new vehicles that came out this year. We've already talked about the Toyota Hilux, with its twin ratings, and now it's time to take a look at the most popular car on the list, the Renault Scenic.
Considering that it's basically the same as the new Megane under the skin, we're not surprised that the crash test results are the same. Equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking, the Scenic was able to score the maximum of five stars in Euro NCAP's tests.

The Scenic is the 20th Renault to get the maximum safety rating of five stars. In fact, with the exception of the Twizy quadricycle, Traffic van, and Twingo city car, all the current cars have it. But that's because Euro NCAP has just started demanding that AEB is offered as standard.

Even if you do get in a crash, the 2017 Scenic is pretty safe, as it scored 90% for adult occupant protection and 82% for children. What's more, the rating also applies to the Grand Scenic 7-seater model.

Renault claims that the new Scenic uses a structure consisting of reinforced steel skirts, side members, windscreen pillars and posts. Parts of the structure are described as "ultra-high elastic", with each square millimeter said to resist up to 120kg of pressure. In addition, crumple zone steel located outside the passenger compartment allows for an impact to be absorbed. In the crash test video released by Euro NCAP, you can see how it crumples like an accordion, but the passenger cell stays intact.

Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen, said, “It is always good to see safety equipment being fitted as standard, and Renault and Subaru deservedly get top safety ratings for their cars. The fact that Toyota is making advanced safety technologies available on pickups, even if only an option at this stage, shows that the Dual Rating scheme is a great way to encourage broader fitment of these systems across all types of vehicles.”
