Renault has unveiled the facelift of the fourth generation Clio, prepared for launch as a 2017 model. The small hatchback was first launched 26 years ago, and is Renault’s best-seller, with over 13 million units worldwide.
The new Clio facelift comes with a little advancement of the design language shown on the ongoing model, launched in 2012 with the brand’s new styling identity. The latter was developed by the current design boss of the French brand, Laurens Van Den Acker.
From a design point of view, the first changes introduced in the Renault Clio 4 lineup include the availability of full-LED lighting.
Some versions come with C-shaped daytime running lights. The front grille has been redrawn around the brand’s logo, while the lower part has been widened.
The rear of the Clio has received a redesigned “skirt” for the bumper. The design package of the Clio has been enhanced with more colors, as well as a selection of wheel designs, as well as more personalization options.
Once inside, customers will find new upholstery patterns and materials, as well as plastic materials with a grain-effect finish. The faux-chrome trim elements now have a matte finish for less glare, and the colors have been modified. Other interior components have been refined for enhanced quality and durability.
Tech-wise, the Clio facelift is now available with three different multimedia units: Media Nav Evolution, Renault R-Link Evolution, and R&Go system. The latter is available for all equipment levels. The French brand has also introduced the availability of a Bose sound system in the range. Depending on the version chosen, the new Clio is available with front parking sensors, a reversing camera, and a parking assistance system called Easy Park Assist.
Concerning powertrains, Renault has introduced a six-speed manual gearbox option for the 1.5-liter dCi 110 HP diesel engine, both being fresh introductions in the range. Furthermore, the 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline direct injection unit called TCe 120 is now available for order with a six-speed manual unit. In total, the Clio facelift range is now available with 11 engine/transmission combinations, one of the broadest in the segment.
Unlike the previous version of the Clio, Renault has decided to launch the high-end Initiale Paris version with the standard model. It comes with an exclusive body color, a steering wheel covered in Nappa leather, specific trim elements, LED lights, and the most powerful engines in the range.
