It's hard to understand why a Porsche 911 GT3 RS would drag race the 991.2 mid-cycle revamp 911 Turbo S. And yet here we are, bringing you the footage of the velocity battle.
Some say you can't get German humor until you learn the language, but we might just break that barrier by using Zuffenhausen machines. Regardless, the race you see here is a fully legit one, not the kind of impromptu street action.

The pair of rear-engined coupes met on an airfield in their home country, with the only care of the drivers being to keep the throttle mashed. The supercar went for a rolling start, setting off at about 30 mph (metric system followers should make that 50 km/h).

While the Rennsport Neunelfer did get a bit of a head start, the move was only there to follow Freddy Mercury's show-related advice.

At first sight, this is a battle where the 500 hp GT3 RS has to rely on its otherwise small weight advantage, while the massive downforce of the track animal works against it. As for the 580 hp Turbo S, this has a monstrous torque advantage, delivering 553 lb-ft in Overboost mode, compared to 339 lb-ft of its naturally aspirated opponent.

While the result of this race is predictable for car aficionados ages, say, seven and up, the aural part of the fight sees the tables being turned, with the GT3 RS soundtrack clearly dominating the battle.

There's one thing we need to remind you of before inviting you to hit the "play" buttons below, though. The "generation" gap between these two 911s surprisingly also favors the Turbo S on the track. While the GT3 RS can lap the Nurburgring in 7:20, the Turbo S can, according to Porsche's calculations, handle the task two seconds quicker.

P.S.: While the first clip below offers us the start-to-finish-and-beyond cabin view of the race, the second video delivers an outside view of the dynamic take-off.
