2017 Porsche 911 R Shot Waiting Outside Zuffenhausen Factory Is Special Enough

To somebody outside the Porsche realm, it might seem extremely odd that we're making a bug deal out of a 911 sitting outside the factory that brings these things to the world. After all, that's the norm, right?

Well, when it comes to the 2017 Porsche 911 R, nothing is normal. Since the German automaker is only gifting the world with 991 examples of this clutch special, seeing one waiting patiently next to its Zuffenhausen birthplace makes for a special occasion.

As for the details of this particular car, the 500 hp coupe comes with the same Red stripes as the launch car that swept us off our feet during its Geneva Motor Show debut back in March.

Nevertheless, while that vehicle came with the "normal" taillights, which many (ourselves included) prefer, the one we have here packs the clear tailllights, which, to certain Redditors' surprise, are a Porsche Exclusive option.

Speaking of which, the 911 R simply doesn't have anything to do with its official $184,900 MSRP. For one thing, the entire production run was sold out when the car had its world premiere.

In fact, Porsche runs the VIP program that tracks down vehicle ownership. Let's say you were among the lucky few who were invited to acquire such a Neunelfer. If you bought it to make some easy money, perhaps to recover some of the cash you've injected into the option list of your other Porschas and are planning to flip it, you'll exit this circle of trust and thus no longer have access to exclusive future releases.

Well, this hasn't stopped somebody from listing a 2017 Porsche 911 R on eBay for $1,25 million - make of that what you will.

P.S.: If this static pose seen here doesn't float your boat, perhaps some tire-juicy 911 R donuts will (the shenanigan took place at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed).
