In theory, an auction that includes Porsche 911 R should be all about the uber-limited 1967 classic. After all, Zuffenhausen's 2017 911 R couldn't go under the hammer, right?
Once again talking from a theoretical perspective, the German automaker used a VIP program to monitor special acquisitions and, once owners flip their automobiles ahead of what could be considered a normal schedule, they get excluded from the circle of trust.
Well, that's not how things happen in real life. And we'll get a sample of the real world market this Friday, when the 2017 Porsche 911 R you see here is set to be auctioned off at Bonhams' Knokke Le-Zoute event in Belgium.
We're talking about number 135 of 911, which was delivered new to its current owner in mid-July. The Swedish buyer didn't choose the frugal approach when dipping into the list of optional extras, so, for example, air conditioning and navigation are on the menu.
So how did the man get bored of his driver's special Neunelfer (ater all, it has a clutch) so quickly? He didn't - such a feeling can't arrive in 32 miles (52 km).
The R is expected to fetch between EUR250,000 and EUR 350,000 ($279,000 to $390,000 at the current exchange rates). While that's pretty far from the $184,000 MSRP, such a price would make fora good steal. Heck, you can find GT3 RS PDK examples at the kind of money, while the 911 R that showed up on eBay earlier this year was listed for a shameless $1.25 million.
As you can expect, Bonhams Belgian representative, Gregory Tuytens, didn't miss the occasion to highlit this aspect of the rear-engine machine's pricing: "The Porsche 911 R is a car for real purists and fully justifies the title of the most sought-after modern Porsche today. Six months ago the launch price was around €200,000, but already the Porsche 911 R is being traded at €500,000-600,000. We believe our very fair estimate will attract a great deal of attention from enthusiasts keen to acquire one of the rarest Porsche around,"
Then again, the upper value mentioned above is just an estimate, so we could see the Porscha trading hands for a much more serious amount of money.
