2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S Tuned to 478 HP by Mcchip-DKR

The 991 Series is arguably the most capable 911 there’s ever been. Despite the fact that it is only the third platform since the 911 was born in 1964, Porsche has already overhauled the 991 Series to 991.2 specification for the 2016 model year. In the process, the Carrera and Carrera S have lost the naturally aspirated engine.

Instead of the atmospheric 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter boxers, the 991.2 twins are animated by an all-new 3.0-liter flat-six with two turbos to boot. Compared to the old units, the new kid on the block adds 20 horsepower (20 PS) and 44 lb-ft (60 Nm) to the go-faster mix. This output premium made the entry-level Carrera an out-and-out firecracker thanks to a sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4 seconds. The Carrera S, on the other hand, deals with it in just 3.7 seconds.

German tuning company Mcchip-DKR wasn’t happy with these gains, which is why the outfit did what it had to do. Introducing the Mcchip-DKR Stage 1 Pack for the Porsche 991.2 Carrera S. For €2,499 or $2,875 at current exchange rates, a software upgrade will bump the get-up-and-go to 468 horsepower (468 PS) and 570 lb-ft (773 Nm). Pretty impressive, but Mcchip-DKR isn’t happy with this either.

Provided that you have €8,349 or $9,580 to spare, the German specialist will enhance the Stage 1 Pack with a high-performance exhaust system plus catalytic converters from Capristo. The result of this add-on? 478 horsepower (485 PS) and 585 lb-ft (793 Nm) of torque. In plain English, that’s ballistic performance for a 911.

But wait, there’s more! Chip in another €1,490 ($1,710) and Mcchip-DKR will work its magic with the PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. This modification increases the maximum RPM at which the transmission upshifts, but also quickens downshifts.

Are these updates worth it or would you go the extra mile and get the 991.2 Turbo S ($188,100) for its 2.8-second sprint to 60 miles per hour? I... I would get the 9... no, sorry, I can't decide which one I'd have.
