Here it is, ladies and gents, months before we were supposed to see it at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show! Introducing the all-new Opel Insignia, snapped camo-free during a photo shoot.
The 2017 Opel Insignia Grand Sport models featured in the adjacent photos were spied by the carparazzi in the United States. “Wait, isn’t Opel a European brand?” It is, but it’s owned by General Motors. Moreover, don’t forget that the all-new Insignia rides on the E2XX platform that was introduced by the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. As a replacement for the tried-and-tested Epsilon II, the E2XX promises to shed up to 175 kilograms (386 pounds) over the first-gen Insignia.

In terms of dimensions, the German manufacturer let it slip that the sedan’s wheelbase increased by 92 millimeters, while the track leveled up by 11 millimeters. Whereas the 5-door sedan looks planted in OPC Line attire, the Insignia Grand Sport Tourer is that little bit more pleasant to the eye. Equipped with Brembo brakes and high-quality Continental rubber wrapped around 20-inch wheels, the all-new Insignia shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Slated to go on sale in 2017, the second-generation Insignia will be available with electro-hydraulically adaptive dampers for superior handling characteristics. Three driving modes are on the menu as well: Standard, Tour (comfortable setup for long-distance driving), and Sport (reduces brake dive and body roll, remaps the throttle pedal for sharper responses, the lot).

Similar to the K-generation Astra, the all-new Insignia will offer IntelliLux adaptive LED matrix headlights with features that include spotlight and curve illumination. As far as the oily bits are concerned, the 2017 Opel Insignia will comes with front- or all-wheel-drive layouts, manual and automatic transmissions, and with a selection of turbo engines. In applications such as the Holden Insignia, the top-of-the-line mill will come in the form of a V6.

Over in Europe, it’s safe to bet that the 2017 Open Insignia's engine range will start with a 1.6 CDTI and a 1.4 Turbo. Higher up the food chain, a 1.6 Turbo and 2.0-liter CDTI will have to make do. Later on, Opel is expected to introduce the full-blooded OPC variant and, reportedly, a plug-in hybrid.
