Previously available only as a four-door Crew Cab, the second generation of the Nissan Titan pickup truck is now joined by the Single Cab model. And yes, it is available with a V8 turbo diesel.
Introduced for the 2017 model year and scheduled to go on sale later this fall, the Titan Single Cab workhorse provides an entry-point for Nissan North America in the commercial fleet and work truck markets. The second body style in the Titan range will be joined later on by the Nissan Titan King Cab.
Be it the 5.0-liter turbo diesel-powered model or the Titan Single Cab with the 5.6-liter freely aspirated V8, the newest body style in the Titan lineup boasts an 8-foot bed. Along with a choice of 4x2 and 4x4, the Single Cab is available in two trim levels. In the adjacent pics and vids, the S is the white truck with the plastic bumpers, while the SV is the red one with chrome bumpers.
When it comes down to the rough stuff, the 2017 Nissan Titan Single Cab has the following to offer: 1,930 pounds of maximum payload, 9,730 pounds of towing capacity, and a gross combined weight rating of 15,300 pounds. The 2017 Nissan Titan XD Single Cab, however, is a little bit more capable.
The added capability comes courtesy of an entirely separate fully boxed ladder frame chassis, as well as the availability of a turbo diesel engine. When equipped with the 5.6-liter Endurance V8, the 2017 Nissan Titan XD Single Cab boats 2,910 pounds of payload and 11,590 pounds in terms of towing capacity. With the Cummins 5.0-liter V8 turbo diesel, payload goes down to 2,420 pounds and the towing capacity upsurges up to 12,640 pounds.
“The Titan XD and Titan single cabs will have the power, torque, heavy-duty chassis and durability demanded by today's demanding worksites – including the highest towing capacities and payloads in the lineup,” declared Rich Miller, the director of Product Planning for Trucks, SUVs and Commercial Vehicles at Nissan North America and chief product specialist for the Titan and Titan XD.
