The Euro 6 emissions standard is mandatory for passenger cars in Europe ever since September 2015. For the light commercial vehicle genre, the Euro 6 emissions standard is go this September.
The Mitsubishi L200, Fiat Fullback, and Volkswagen Amarok facelift already boast Euro 6 turbo diesel engines under their hoods. Now, however, the time has come for Nissan to follow in the footsteps of the greener competition with the model year 2017 Navara NP300.
The focal point of this story is the 2.3-liter dCi turbo diesel engine, the beating heart of the Nissan Navara NP300 and, to some extent, the technically similar Renault Alaskan. The Euro 6 upgrade doesn’t affect output, which means that the Navara NP300 will continue to be available in 160 PS and 190 PS forms.
CO2 emissions now start from as low as 159 grams per kilometer, representing a reduction of 8 grams per kilometer on the preceding Euro 5 engine. More than that, Nissan highlights that the updated turbo diesel mill makes the Navara NP300 the best in its segment.
Thanks to the addition of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, fuel consumption has improved to 46.3 UK mpg, which works out at 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers. It’s a small improvement, but it’s an improvement nevertheless. The SCR system is joined by an AdBlue tank that holds 17 liters of liquid. That’s enough for up to 7,150 miles (11,500 kilometers) between refills. The filler flap for the AdBlue reservoir is located on the opposite side of the vehicle to the diesel tank to avoid confusion. But wait, there’s more!
Other improvements brought to the Nissan Navara NP300 for 2017 include a standard Idle-Stop System on all manual models, a color combimeter, cruise control with speed limiter, Bluetooth connectivity, and multi-function controls on the steering wheel. On that note, the gross vehicle weight has increased by 25 to 35 kg, while curb weight has increased by 5 to 38 kg. The one-tonne payload and 3.5-tonne towing capacity remain unchanged.
