2017 Nissan Micra Spied in Spain

Once upon a time, Nissan brought the Micra supermini into the world. That was 1982 and the car was as tiny as a supermini gets. The outgoing generation, which was launched in 2010, is similarly petite and cute. However, the fifth will break the norm regarding styling and practicality.

The carparazzi caught the 2017 Nissan Micra in the wild, testing in Spain. From the looks of it, the prototype featured in the photo gallery below is a little bigger, sharper, better. I am especially allured by the frowning face, which features sleek halogen headlights and a V-Motion front grille. And yes, it does resemble the 2015 Nissan Sway Concept and yes, I think this change of heart is for the better.

Nissan has applied the revolutionary design language to the rear quarters and back end, too. Here we have rear door handles located where the C-pillar meets the rear side glasshouse, a stylish solution that was made popular by the Alfa Romeo 147. The shape of the hatch door and the heavily sculpted taillights are other highlights of the new Micra.

Expected to make its first public outing at the 2016 Paris Motor Show this October, the 2017 Nissan Micra is based on the CMF B platform, the architecture that will serve as a basis for the 2017 Nissan Juke. Engine-wise, an array of three-cylinder and four-cylinder force-fed mills should do the trick.

There’s a probability the 1.5 dCi turbo diesel from Renault will be made available, though it remains to be seen if the Clio is willing to share it. On the cog-swapping front, the typical five- and six-speed manual units will be joined by a continuously variable transmission.

For the European markets, Nissan is expected to manufacture the 2017 Nissan Micra at the Renault plant in Flins, France, the factory that produces the Renault Clio IV supermini and the all-electric Renault Zoe.
