Now at its fifth generation, the Nissan Micra can call itself mature. But Nissan, in its infinite wisdom, describes the K14 Micra “as audacious as it is revolutionary.” Even though that’s a bit of a stretch from the automaker's part, the sharp styling, cohesive interior, and modern platform more than make up for it.
For the Micra Gen5, the Japanese brand’s designers put an emphasis on length. The character line that stretches from the V-motion grille at the front to the taillights also gives the impression of dynamism. Make no mistake about it, the K14 Micra is a lot better than the model it replaces.
At launch, the 2017 Nissan Micra will be available in 10 paint finishes, including head-turning Energy Orange. Taken together, the exterior and interior visual combos make up for 125 variations. That’s a huge selling point in the subcompact segment, an underrated place of the European new car market where most manufacturers don’t usually make much of customization. From a design standpoint, the all-new Micra is second best to the Citroen C3.
On the techy front, highlights include a 7-inch infotainment system that can be upgraded with satellite navigation, downloadable apps, and Siri voice control. Further down the rabbit hole, we have goodies such as a Bose Personal premium sound system, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist, Intelligent Around View Monitor, Intelligent Emergency Braking, Active Ride Control and Active Trace Control from the Qashqai, and so forth.
As for mechanical bits and bobs, the CMF B platform of the Micra can be enhanced by a “brushless electric power steering system for greater steering feel and response.” I don’t if “feel” should be used in the same sentence with “electric power steering,” but here’s hope that’s just me being skeptical. Moving on to the oily bits, there are three engines to choose from: 0.9-liter three-cylinder turbo, 1.0-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated mill, and a 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine from the Renault brand’s parts bin.
More info on the new Micra is available in the release below the video.
