After a successful first model year in terms of sales, the Maxima has been updated for 2017. Mind you, retail prices have gone up by $50 for the Maxima S and by $30 for the Maxima Platinum trim level.
For $33,395 including the $835 destination charge, the 2017 Nissan Maxima S comes with full-size sedan roominess, a 3.5-liter V6 with 300 horsepower, Xtronic continuously variable transmission, and many more niceties. Apple CarPlay is the highlight brought by the 2017 model year. The iPhone connectivity feature works together with the Maxima’s infotainment unit.

One of the greatest functionalities of the NissanConnect infotainment system is that it has a “swipe to meter” function. Simply put, the driver can swipe the navigation map from the 8-inch touchscreen located on the center stack to bring it up in the 7-inch display located within the car’s instrument cluster.

At the other end of the spectrum, the 2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum holds a retail price of $40,825 including freight. Other than the obligatory creature comforts that come with a range-topping trim level, the Platinum also boasts automatic collision notification, remote start via smartphone, emergency call, stolen vehicle locator and more goodies to quench the thirst of tech-savvy drivers.

The Platinum can be further enhanced by opting for the Medallion Package. I agree that the name doesn’t sound like much, but the features brought by the package are pretty neat. These are 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, interior accent lighting and exterior ground lighting, illuminated kick plates, and something called a Premium spoiler with a capital P. The Dynamic Package available for the Maxima SV ($35,375) adds the same wheels, the same illuminated kick plates, the same spoiler, and side rocker molding.

Now available to order at dealers across the United States, the 2017 Nissan Maxima is a pretty fine candidate in the full-size sedan segment. There’s but a single thorn in the Maxima’s side and that is the Toyota Avalon. If it were your money on the line, what non-premium full-size sedan would you go for?
