Minus the $1,595 destination charge, the 2016 Nissan GT-R is priced from $101,770. The 2017 Nissan GT-R, the one with the much better interior and more aggressive styling cues, is $8,220 more expensive.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, eight grand more. However, I advise you to look on the bright side of this price increase. More specifically, the titanium exhaust system is standard equipment now. For the 2016 model year, Nissan offered it as a $12,900 option for the hell-bent for leather GT-R Nismo.
"As the icon of Nissan's driving performance, the GT-R continues to evolve. With the signature V-motion grille, the GT-R now possesses the latest Nissan design language. Its exceptional aerodynamic performance and upgraded interior have given the GT-R a more mature character," declared Mamoru Aoki, executive design director at the Nissan Global Design Center.
Remember when the Nissan GT-R was priced at $69,850? Yeah, that was 8 years ago. By comparison, the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera S is sensibly less expensive than the Nissan GT-R at $101,700 sans the destination charge. But then again, we forgive Nissan for the pricing.
You see, the R35 is a legend and it will stay that way for generations of gearheads to come. But deep inside, I wish that Nissan would’ve offered the interior of the 2017 model year when the R35 launched at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. The redesigned dash, the easier to use media system, the Nappa leather, the acoustic glass windshield, these little things were doable back then, yet Nissan decided to look the other way.
In addition to the revised interior and the sexier body shell, the 2017 Nissan GT-R ups the ante to 565 horsepower, which accounts for 20 ponies more than before. A cheaper trim level of the 2017 model year Nissan GT-R will hit North American dealerships late this year or early in 2017, holding a starting price closer to $100,000. The 600 horsepower 2017 Nissan GT-R Nismo is slated to arrive this fall.
