It's probably safe to say that MINI kind of shot itself in the foot at this year's edition of the Essen Motor Show, but until we find some official data to back this statement up we'll say no more.
As it happens, those that hurried and got themselves a MINI Cooper S will no longer be the laughing stock of the people who waited a while and then paid a little more for a MINI John Cooper Works.

We say this because MINI has just launched a range of Original Accessories by John Cooper Works at the 2016 edition of the Essen Motor Show. In short, among a plethora of visual tweaks, the Cooper S versions of the MINI in 3, 5 and Cabrio guises can now be fitted with a JCW power kit.

There is no word on the extra torque it brings, but the tuning kit increases the turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine's output from 192 hp to 211 hp. Sure, the real JCW still has 231 hp and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, which is slightly more than the 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque in the Cooper S.

That said, if you also combine the JCW power kit on the Cooper S with a set of JCW brakes and better tires, the difference between the two models shouldn't be as large as before, should it? Speaking of which, the Original Accessories unveiled at Essen include a braking system with 4-piston fixed caliper brakes with perforated and grooved discs at the front and 1-piston caliper brakes at the rear. As expected, the calipers are finished in Chili Red.

For those who prefer more show instead or combined with more go, JCW will also offer a set of black band spoilers for the front and rear aprons and the JCW aerodynamic packaged. As expected, a bunch of stuff like mirror caps, air inlet covers, newly designed alloy wheels and stickers will also be available, transforming any Cooper S into something even more menacing-looking than the Cooper S JCW.
