2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS Gets Launched with a Dud in the Presentation Clip

Earlier today, the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS had its official internet debut, hitting the web with a few still images and plenty of information that we’ve already covered.
However, they’ve also released a presentation trailer showing the same two cars that are featured in their restrictive photo gallery: a white Mercedes-AMG GLS63 and a deep blue Mercedes-Benz GLS350d. Nothing wrong so far.

The white performance SUV is seen driving on the road like it’s supposed to, while the more rugged blue one tackles the unbeaten path. That also makes sense. In fact, the whole video makes perfect sense, bar for one single slide that’s actually a “blink and you’ll miss it” type of affair.

If you’d be so kind as to skip to the 1:33 mark, you’ll see how the previously normal GLS dashboard suddenly changes into that of an SLS AMG. It could be because the car used its indicator - we all know not a lot of Mercedes-Benz drivers bother to do that - and something happened with the time/space continuum, who knows?

The more likely explanation is that somebody editing the video did a sloppy job, and instead of saying “no” to whoever insisted a shot with the AMG Performance Media telemetrics on the screen should be featured in the clip, opted to use a sequence showing the SLS AMG.

Apparently, somebody at Mercedes-Benz got wise to the mix-up, and they withdrew the video from YouTube. Unfortunately for them, they were too late and other channels already grabbed it, so it’s (still) out there for all to see.

To be fair, it’s not such a big deal, really, but you would expect a company the size of Mercedes-Benz to be more careful with stuff like this. On the other hand, they did manage to make it a lot funnier this way, so perhaps we should actually thank that sloppy guy.
