2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC450 AMG Coupe Spied for the First Time

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLG Coupe was first shown to the public at the Shanghai Motor Show earlier this year in the form of a concept, but take away the huge wheels and the Ferrari California-styled exhausts, and Mercedes-Benz pretty much showed us the AMG version of its compact-sized CUV in advance.

And these new rounded, flowing lines the Mercedes-Benz SUV range is sporting nowadays seem to suit the GLC Coupe even better than the regular GLC. Maybe we’re not yet ready to accept the boxy GLK is gone and that’s keeping us from fully embracing the GLC, but with the Coupe, that’s not a real problem as it’s a completely new model.

Mercedes-Benz has hinted from long ago that both the GLC and the GLC Coupe will get AMG versions - something the old GLK couldn’t even dream of with its utilitarian look and very non-aerodynamic shape - but it never really mentioned whether they would be AMG sport or the whole nine yards AMG.

The car you see in these pictures is supposed to be the milder, AMG Sport version. It should come with a V6 engine developing 367 hp and the new nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Even though some GLCs and GLC Coupes will have two-wheel drive, these AMG models all come equipped with the 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system.

People will always want more power, but if the AMG Sport version on other models is anything to go by (the C-Class, for instance), this newly developed niche in the Mercedes-Benz line-up might actually be the better choice for most customers, offering the perfect mix of comfort, performance, efficiency and acquisition price. Not to mention it might even turn out to be the only choice, as the GLC63 is yet to be confirmed or even spotted.

According to our photographer, the GLC450 AMG Coupe was minding its own business somewhere in southern Europe, enjoying the warm late-autumn. The car shows all the hallmarks of an AMG Sport model with the specific front bumper, exhausts and AMG wheels.

The GLC Coupe is expected to make its first official appearance early next year, and the GLC450 AMG Coupe should be accompanying it.
