2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Strips Down a Little Too Much, Shows Up Naked

During this year’s TecFactory (TecFabrik) demonstrations, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class made a more unusual appearance showing up wearing absolutely nothing, body panels included. However, the fact that even the barebones body of the car had to wear a small strip of camouflage was a little scary.

Just when pictures of the new E-Class testing on the roads were getting a bit boring (but don’t worry, there will be more of them in the future), Mercedes-Benz released these images with the new E-Class frame being more or less the center of attraction.

Mercedes-Benz probably realized not a single soul on this world was surprised by the exterior design of the E-Class, so they’ve switched tactics by showing us images of the testing process. Can’t say that we mind, since the interiors of car plants or testing facilities are always fascinating places.

The main talking point raised by these images is that of the fully-digital instrument cluster seen in one of the pictures. Previous spy shots of the interior suggested the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class would be using a hybrid setup with analog dials and a color display. We did take into account the fact that a fully digital one could be offered as an option (which would make E-Class’ dash virtually identical to that of the S-Class) even when the first spy pictures were released, but on the other hand, there is the possibility that the instrument cluster in the image actually belongs to an S-Class. And we’re pretty sure it’s the latter.

Regardless of where the truth lies, we’ve been warned well in advance that this new E-Class will be up to its neck in modern technology features, so a fully digital dashboard would make a lot of sense. Mercedes said the E-Class will behave like an autonomous vehicle on highways, and their recent similar stunts involving high-tonnage trucks dust off even the last trace of doubt over the veracity of these claims.

Even if the exterior won’t even touch the boat, not to mention rock it, there’s still plenty to get excited about with the new E-Class. Here’s one random example: Mercedes-AMG E63 S.
