Mercedes-Benz has been on the offensive lately, releasing a large number of new or revised models, which is bound to make some execs from rival companies chew on their fingernails a little.
In terms of sales, too, Mercedes-Benz looks set to take Audi’s second spot at the end of this year in the premium segment hierarchy, with BMW’s days at the top being numbered as well. This success can be attributed to a “see a niche, fill it” approach that saw Mercedes extend its range with tons of new models - think CLA and CLA Shooting Brake, GLE Coupe or the GLA crossover. You can even consider the A-Class to be a completely new car, as it (fortunately) has nothing in common with the previous model.

One of the best-received new models, however, has been the C-Class. With the previous model struggling against its younger competitors from Audi and especially BMW, the new W205 mini-S-Class’ look brought it instant praise from the press and promising selling figures from the public.

It spawned a small family of models that range from the standard sedan to the T-Modell station wagon and the Coupé, each with its AMG C63 version. The C-Class was also the first to receive a model from the new AMG Sport line in the form of the 367 hp C450 AMG.

Well, the C-Class family is about to receive its last member and it’s now settled (if there were still people believing - or hoping - otherwise): it will come with a soft-top. The C-Class Cabriolet was caught with its roof completely naked and so these images put an end to any possible discussion on the subject.

Expect the C-Class Cabriolet to borrow its engine lineup from the Coupé, which at the moment means 170 hp and 204 hp 2.1-liter diesels, or 184 hp and 245 hp 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engines. And then there are the AMG versions we all hope will happen, starting with the C450 AMG Cabriolet and ending with the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Cabriolet.

Mercedes-Benz is keeping quiet over when the C-Class Cabriolet is going to be launched, but if it decides the upcoming L.A. Auto Show is not the right venue (even though the sunny California would be perfect if you ask us), then it should happen during the first half of 2016. The Geneva Motor Show looks like a likely candidate, as it’s the first major European show and Mercedes-Benz needs a strong presence.
