The story of the numbersIn the standard version, the E63 should deliver somewhere around 550 horses, with a future S incarnation set to take that even further. For one thing, AMG Boss Tobias Moers has confirmed the V8 heart has plenty of unexploited potential for the years to come. Oh and don’t worry about the E-Class overpowering the GT. The sportscar will receive its fair share of special models that won’t be shy on the muscle topic.
Further down the driveline, we’ll find a 4Matic All-Wheel-Drive system, with certain rumors going as far as claiming the Rear-Wheel-Drive models will be discontinued. While we wouldn’t bet on that, we do expect the E63 to be quite a rocket.
For one thing, the latest major revamp turned the current E63 AMG into an insanely fast machine, one that has no issues taking on Porsche Panamera Turbo and most of the credit comes from the introduction of the 4Matic system.
Platform-wise, the new E-Class range will introduce an evolution of the MRA architecture we’ve seen on the C-Class. This means less weight and superior torsional rigidity. All with the added benefits of a larger cabin, with most of the extra room set to be invested in the rear area.
While the standard E-Class is set to debut next year, the AMG-massaged model will arrive in 2017 as a 2018 model - this should be the usual story, but with the prototype looking complete, we might get the car earlier than expected, hence the "2017" we used to describe it.
The Germans are expected to place the AMG badges on the sedan and the T-Modell (wagon), but the new generation could see Afflaterbach signing the Coupe version for the first time.
