2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 Loses Most of Its Camouflage, Shows Bling Brake Calipers

Testing of the sportiest Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 is moving forward, and it very well should considering the model is expected to debut sometime during this year, following the big reveal of the base version in January.

Up until now, we’ve only been treated to pictures of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 in full camouflage, but it seems that despite remaining in the cold weather of the far North, the E63 has begun a very promising looking stripping program. If it keeps this up, we’ll soon see it do the full monty.

Until then, though, this set of images is the most revealing yet, even though, frankly, in spite of the large areas of exposed paint, the interesting bits are still under wraps. What we get to see are the car’s lateral profile and its rear, but that is where the least amount of modifications have been carried out. If any.

The E63 gets more aggressive sills, redesigned front and rear bumpers, a new rear air diffuser and a sportier exhaust system. Which is great, but sadly, all these parts are still under the black and white camouflage that blends in perfectly with the white of the snowy scenery and the black of the car’s paint job.

Fortunately, though, our spy photographers were able to zoom in closer on some of the car’s details, and so we get to examine the rounded-rectangles twin-exhaust tips and the front air intakes, hiding a radiator behind. Also, missing the brake calipers would have been absolutely impossible, as they come in a golden-coppery color that’s as discreet as a clown in the middle of a fancy dinner.

But the one thing that continues to intrigue us is the front end. Judging from what we can see here and the first set of pictures, it would appear that the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 will have plenty of painted surfaces on its snout, at least in the upper part where the radiator grille is split by a single, very thick blade. The clam-like hood contributes to this sensation, but we’ll have to see the car fully unveiled to know for sure.

The good news is that’s not going to take very long. If it doesn't happen early next month, in Geneva, then we’ll probably have to be patient through the summer, with the launch coming at the beginning of fall. And if you need one more reason to be excited, here it is: the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 is going to be the most powerful AMG model, gathering more than 600 hp from its 4.0-liter V8 engine. While offering full four seats and a practical trunk, we might add (not to mention a station wagon version).
