The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been shown earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but the sports version of Stuttgart’s mid-sized sedan is yet to break cover.
Having seen the E-Class from every possible angle, we’ll have to admit we’re not that curious about the AMG version. Don’t get us wrong, it’s not because the new E doesn’t look fantastic - it does; it’s because lately the AMG conversion has been pretty straightforward.

You take the standard car, you change the radiator grille with one that has a single, double-bladed horizontal stripe, you put on a front bumper with larger than life air vents, swap the wheels for 21-inch alloys and stick a twin double exhaust system at the back together with a massive air diffuser and a more pronounced lip spoiler. It’s as simple as that.

That’s exactly what Remco Meulendijk thought when he came up with this rendering for the new, still unrevealed Mercedes-AMG E63. Looking at the two images provided, it’s clear he executed the plan to perfection, his version of the E63 having all the prerequisites of an AMG model. The only thing missing is the different hood cutout line that the model will have.

What we can’t see in this rendering, however, is the car’s engine. The Mercedes-AMG E63 is expected to come with the superb 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine we’ve seen in the GT and the smaller C63, but not in the recently unveiled Mercedes-AMG SLC43. Unlike those other two cars, though, in the E63, the unit is expected to deliver power in the region of 600 hp, which is a far cry from what it offers for the GT S and C63 S - 510 hp.

The Mercedes-AMG E63 will be launched with AMG’s seven-speed automatic, but it should get a new, nine-speed version (based on the 9G-TRONIC) pretty soon after it goes on sale. Will that keep people from flocking to buy right from the off what must be one of the sexiest AMG sedans in history? Probably not. No, we don’t think so. No.
