Despite having unveiled the still new “AMG Sport” sub-brand in 2015, Mercedes-AMG seems to have had a change of heart now that the 2017 C 43 4Matic Coupe has been officially revealed before the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Essentially, the new model is the Coupe version of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C 450 AMG Sport 4Matic sedan, which will benefit from a similar name change in the upcoming months and is powered by the same engine.

Speaking of which, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic Coupe is moved by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that has been massaged by AMG engineers to deliver 367 hp and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque.

Thanks to an AMG-tuned version of the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, the C 43 Coupe can go from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Despite not being a full-blown Mercedes-AMG model like the C 63, the new C 43 benefits from a similar branding scheme and has borrowed a couple of characteristics from its more powerful brother.

Its AMG Ride Control sports suspension features adaptive damping in three stages while the AMG Dynamic Select offers no less than five driving modes. Also borrowed from the C 63 models are parts of the front axle and the steering, which provide a much sharper response in corners.

Keeping things in check when the going gets tough is a high-performance braking system with 360 mm brake discs at the front and 320 mm at the rear.

The new C 63 4Matic Coupe is the second modern “43” model to arrive on the scene, with the first being the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43, unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January and powered by the exact same engine.

The main problem with the new nomenclature for what used to be called “AMG Sport” models is that their powertrains are simply tuned AMG versions of mainstream Mercedes-Benz engines and their manufacture takes place in “regular” Mercedes-Benz factories and not by AMG engineers.
