We never thought we'd say this, but the 2017 McLaren 570GT looks to be the most comfortable sports car in its segment. Naturally, some Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8 V10 owners might try to contradict us, but none of McLaren's rivals seems to have the same kind of long journey credentials.
Joining the 570S Coupe and 540C and thus completing McLaren's “Sports Series” lineup, the new 570GT is fitted with a series of comfort enhancements over its two siblings.

By far the biggest change is the addition of an extra 7.8 cubic feet (220 liters) of storage space behind the two passenger seats, on top of the mid-mounted engine. Called “Touring Deck” in McLaren-speak and engulfed in leather, the new luggage compartment is accessible via a side opening hatch that kind of harks back to the one used by the Jaguar E-Type Coupe. It brings the 570GT's total storage capacity to 13.1 cu ft (370 liters) together with the unchanged “frunk.”

The glass hatch will open on the curbside, no matter if the model in question is left-hand drive or right-hand drive, and has a carbon fiber frame to increase its rigidity.

Since the new model is built for longer and more comfortable journeys, McLaren engineers worked on some other details to improve the drivability of the model compared to the 570S and 540C.

The 2017 570GT's P-Zero tires are bespoke to the model, created by Pirelli for this car alone, and include the so-called “Pirelli Noise Canceling System (PNCS),” which reduces in-cabin road noise by up to three decibels for a more refined ride.

Equipped as standard, the panoramic glass roof has been treated with 18 percent transmission tint, like on the McLaren P1, and is also fitted with a sound and solar film to absorb unwanted solar radiation and provide more noise insulation at the same time.

Also exclusive to the 570GT is a new air-conditioning system with a two-stage automatic function. In “Auto Lo,” the AC fans' speed will be limited to minimize cabin noise on longer drives.

The suspension has been modified as well, with the spring rates being reduced by 15 percent at the front and 10 percent at the rear, while the electro-hydraulic steering system has a ratio reduced by 2 percent to smoother driver inputs at higher speeds.

Powertrain-wise, the 2017 McLaren 570GT is fitted with the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as the 570S. Therefore, the 562 hp (570 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque figures remain the same.

They translate in a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 3.4 seconds and a very GT-like top speed of 204 mph (328 km/h). Deliveries should start in the second half of 2016, with U.S. pricing to start at $199,850, while UK fans will need to shell out at least £154,000 to own one.
