2017 McLaren 570GT Is the Coziest McLaren Ever, Shows Woking Has Matured

Ever since it has returned to building road cars back in 2011, McLaren has been paying close attention to customer and media feeback, with this showing in each and every new model or even upgrade Woking delivers.
So yes, the Brits know the exhaust tone of a 675LT Spider becomes a bit too much when you're going for a long trip. And they're also aware of the fact that owners are not exactly amused by the old-age joke involving supercar drivers having to use their credit cards as luggage.

Well, there has been a response to those coziness aspects, in the form of the 2017 570GT we met on the Geneva floor. This is the most road-savvy McLaren ever and the sheer idea that such a derivative has been built demonstrates how much the automaker has matured.

The main change compared to a 570 is found above the engine bay, where Woking's Grand Tourer (that's a first) delivers extra storage space. Speaking of which, the overall luggage capacity of the machine sits at 12.4 cubic feet, which is a hefty 7.8 cubic feet premium over what the other Sports Series models have to offer. In the same respect, the doors open to a wider angle.

Looking even higher, we find a panoramic roof that can be opened for the kind of access supercar drivers can only dream about. The list of other cabin changes includes extra leather for various surfaces, power seats with memory and soft close doors. Keep in mind all these features are standard, as are the parking sensors. Those willing to take a deep dive in the list of optional extras will be treated to exquisite features such as a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

McLarens already have comfortable rides, given their supercar nature, but compared to the 570S, the GT model comes with a softer setup for the suspension and steering. And we didn't mention the exhaust soundtrack above by accident, as the carmaker has ensured the cruising noise level is reduced.

At the center of the car, the numbers remain unchanged. This means 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of twist. So the performance is anything but soft, since we're dealing with a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 204 mph.

As always, you'll have to pay for comfort. With a starting price of $198,950, the 570GT is the most expensive model in the Sports Series to date. Deliveries are scheduled to kick off late in the year, so you can have something nice for when the weather becomes unpleasant.

While McLaren has confirmed its Sports Series will receive a Spider, which will land next year, we should also see the automaker offering a 540GT for select markets, as is the case with the 540C.
