Mazda has updated the Mazda6 for the 2017 model year, and it is coming to Europe this autumn.
The 2017 model year of the Mazda6 model is available with a new exterior color, called “Machine Gray.” On the inside, the model comes with a few design improvements, in the form of a new steering wheel, a redesigned head-up display system, and a 4.6-inch driver information display between the gauges.

Meanwhile, the Mazda Active Driving Display system (HUD) features a higher resolution and has been upgraded to full-color graphics.

On the technology side, Mazda has enriched the Mazda6 range with a new Traffic Sign Recognition feature, which can now read “No Entry” signs, as well as speed limit signs. The signs are interpreted and compared to operating speed, and the driver is warned if the maximum permitted velocity is exceeded on a segment of road.

The brand’s Smart City Brake Support System has received a forward-sensing camera instead of the near-infrared laser used by ongoing models. The improvement widens the speed range for detecting other vehicles ahead and preventing or mitigating a collision.

The Japanese automaker has selected the Mazda6 to be its first model to feature the G-Vectoring Control system on the Old Continent. The system was first introduced on the Mazda3/Axela facelift.

For those of you that are not familiar with the name, it is a system that modulates engine torque to improve comfort while cornering by eliminating the need for minor steering adjustments through a slight capping of torque in response to steering inputs.

The gasoline powertrain range is composed of three SkyActiv-G engines, which provide between 145 and 192 HP. Meanwhile, the diesel engine options come in the form of two SkyActiv-D 2.2-liter units that supply 150 or 175 HP.

While the naturally aspirated gasoline engines have not been modified, the diesels in the range come with a small redesign that improves acceleration response, as well as a damper and sound system that tries to hide the usual sounds and vibrations of compression-ignited units. Mazda’s diesels were rather silent, but these changes should make them even more refined.

Speaking of silencing, Mazda has improved the soundproofing of the 2017 Mazda6, an element which has also been enhanced with the 2015 facelift introduced in the range.

The automaker has explained that the changes come from new door seals, supplementary sound insulation materials added to the underbody, headliner, doors, and rear console, as well as more strict panel tolerances. Mazda has even fitted the front doors with laminated windows, to suppress wind noise even more.
