With Mazda using the New York Auto Show to prove you don't have to spend a fortune on a Porsche 911 Targa in order to enjoy an intelligent roof mechanism, all eyes are now on the 2017 Miata RF hard top convertible.
As usual, when the focus is placed on a certain car, the internet enjoys coming up with all sorts of renderings that show what would happen if production plans were mixed with fantasy land.

The MX-5 couldn't miss this trend, so here we are showing you a Miata Retractable Roof that had been virtually blessed with a set of aerodynamic elements borrowed from the Dodge Viper ACR.

While the rendering, which came to our attention via Redditor Shockwave98-, is admittedly delicious, the massive wing of the ACR is missing and that's because the whole thing had to be kept within reasonable limits.

To put things another way, having the wing there wouldn't allow for the roof to open (more on that at the bottom of the page).

Given the layout of these cars, the Miata and the Viper have always been compared, but the truth is they would only feel similar if somebody tweaked the Miata, making its lose its hefty body roll that's been part of its spirit ever since the original NA generation.

As for the Viper ACR, we'll remind you the most badass incarnation of the snake holds tons of track records in the US, having one-upped both the Porsche 918 Spyder and the McLaren P1 on the... Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway.

With the current ND Miata being young, there's plenty of time for Mazda to come up with meaner incarnations of the sportscar, so perhaps this image isn't that far of a stretch.

P.S.:Since some of you might have missed the Miata's new trick roof doing its thing, we've added the presentation video showing the whole shenanigan below.
