While we expected the Infiniti QX30 to be cheaper than the GLA that it shares its platform with, we didn't expect it to undercut every rival. Heck, it could even be considered the cheapest luxury car in America right now!
The $29,950 basic price doesn't include the destination, but it's easier to compare it with the rivals that way. The BMW X1 is way out there at $33,100, as is the $33,700 Audi Q3. As for the Mercedes GLA-Class, it starts at under 33k without any options.
There's over 10% difference between the Infiniti model and most of its rivals. Even if you consider it to be just a hatchback, it's still way cheaper than any compact German sedan in the premium segment, as most of them start at over $30,000.
And while the 2016 Audi A3 offers you a 1.8-liter turbo engine for $30,900, the QX30 has a standard 2-liter with the same 208 hp as the GLA. This makes peak torque of 258 lb-ft available at 1,200 rpm and is connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission system with standard paddle shifters.
Of course, AWD is not standard, which is what we've grown accustomed to in this segment. To get that, you'll have to pay $34,400 plus destination, but you'll also be making a jump from the basic to the Luxury trim.
The $38,500 QX30 Sport includes unique front and rear lower fascias, gloss black grille, body-color side sill panels, dark chrome exhaust finishers and unique 19-inch Gun Metallic aluminum-alloy wheels. It also features slightly lowered suspension, navigation, and a powered sunroof as standard.
The QX30 Luxury AWD and QX30 Premium AWD also include different front and rear lower fascias, extended overfenders, black side sills, roof rails, 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and a higher ride height.
"The all-new QX30 is a tremendous addition to the Infiniti lineup – a powerful statement of our design and technology leadership and a vehicle that we predict will bring a new generation of premium buyers into our showrooms,” said Randy Parker, vice president, Infiniti Americas. “In addition to its striking appearance, the QX30 offers confidence-inspiring handling and an available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, making the QX30 the ideal vehicle to take on urban, suburban and winding rural roads in all driving conditions.”
