Established in 2006 as Hyundai’s main production plant in Europe, the assembly complex in Nosovice, Czech Republic has recently started production of the all-new i30. The third generation of the compact-sized hatchback will arrive at dealers in January.
Designed and developed at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Germany, the 2017 Hyundai i30 carries the weight of the world on its shoulders. Not only is it the South Korean brand’s most important model in the Old Continent, but the i30 aims to outsell its venerable predecessors.
Pricing has been announced for the German market, the i30 Intro 1.0 T-GDI starting from €22,900. Two more powerplants will be made available at launch: the 140 PS (103 kW) 1.4 T-GDI and the 110 PS (81 kW) 1.6 CRDi. The three-pot turbocharged mill, meanwhile, makes do with 120 PS (88 kW). All three engine options are matched with a 6-speed manual transmission. The most expensive option of the lot is the diesel-powered model, at €25,450.
Seven exterior finishes make up the palette for the 2017 Hyundai i30 Intro: white, copper metallic, mocca brown metallic, phantom brown, stargazing blue, platinum silver, and micron gray metallic. In terms of equipment, the i30 Intro comes with everything Hyundai could throw at it.
The highlights include a touchscreen-based infotainment system capable of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED-accented headlights, 17-inch alloys, and two-zone climate control. The whole nine yards for this type of car, to be more specific, hence the rather peppered starting price for the i30 Intro.
Later in 2017, the automaker will launch the i30 CW station wagon. A bit after than, the 2018 Hyundai i30 N hot hatchback will try and make the Volkswagen Golf GTI put its money where its mouth is. “With the New Generation i30 we aim to continue the success of the previous two generations, of which more than 800,000 have been sold in Europe since 2008,” said Thomas A. Schmid, chief operating officer at Hyundai Europe.
